This is a pleasant restaurant by the riverside at Carey Island (Pulay Carey). It's interior is cool and comfortable(although a bit dark...but you can still see your food) This restaurant has been here for years, started out as a shack and expanded. It is quite famous in its own right. Tour groups from out of town do drop by - I've seen people coming in bus loads-not kidding!! Those working in neighbouring factories in Teluk Panglima Garang (eg. Toshiba) and Klang also drop by here for lunch. Kam Heong styled fried Crabs ** Sweet and Sour & Chilli Crab Deepfried Soft-shell crabs ** Steamed Prawns Braised Fish Maw and mushrooms with beancurd** Deep-fried Mango Fish** Steamed Fish Deep-fried Mantis Prawns in sweet sauce Prawns in Assam (Spicy Tamarind) Sauce** 2 types of Vegetables Rice Tea Coconut Juice (RM3.50 each and VERY SWEET) ** very very excellent Total bill for 10 adults and 5 kids, and 2 young kids = RM370 (actually we could not finish all the food, so we asked for a "doggie bag/ta pau"...and had the crabs for dinner LOL)

Restoran Makanan Laut River View: For a Good River view

In the town of Pasir Penambang, there are a number of restaurants. One of them with a good view of the river is River View Restaurant. Set on a large wooden platform, it is open on two sides, allowing a good view of the Kuala Selangor bridge and river and nearby fishing village. There were a number of tourists at this restaurant.

Excellent steamed white pomfret (bawal) -the sauce was clear, piquant and spicy, simply delicious!! We ordered the set meal for 5 adults, 3 big kids and 3 little kids. Total bill which included several soft drinks and Chinese tea = RM198.50 (US$50) The set meal came with steamed pomfret, braised large prawns, fried oyster ommelette, deep fried mantis prawns, flower crabs with butter sauce, fried asparagus, rice & jelly for desert. The food was fresh, but cooking style rather average, except for the pomfret & crabs, which were delicious.

Fatman Steambot

Click Picture to enlarge

You can find Fatman Steamboat at most nightmarkets around the Klang Valley, but I usually visit them every Sunday from 6.00 - 9.00 pm at the Bangsar "Pasar Malam" or Night Market. It's just a great, cheap and fast way of enjoying a bit of steamboat, esp. when you just want a few sticks of jellyfish or fishball or cuttlefish etc. It costs about RM1.75 for any stick. You pick out the stick of whatever it is you want, dip it into the hot water and wait for it to boil, and then fish it out amongst everyone else's sticks in there, and enjoy! Keep the sticks till the end for them to calculate how much you've eaten.

My personal favourite is the jellyfish - it's chewy, crunchy and has an interesting texture. Others are not similarly enamoured as they consider it bland. Whatever! There's so much other choice here though, from intestines to vegetable stuffed tofu to crab claws and cockles, you'll definitely find something you'd want to try. You have a choice of 3 sauces to dip into once your stuff is cooked - oyster sauce, sambal, and something else.

So far the best mamak foods I have tasted in Kuala Lumpur. The location Petaling Jaya is actually out of Kuala Lumpur border but its just a short distance, therefore I drove there occassionaly for dinner. The price is slightly higher than other mamak foods but the taste too are higher. You just have to look at the queue to imagine how good the taste is. Wanna try?

I think I pick the beef.

penang super abc and cendol come come!!I!

It is prudent to leave your stomach with a little bit of room for some of Penang’s famous desert or snacks – before or after a meal.

Ais kacang

The mother of all Malaysian dessert, it is also known as “ABC Ais”. Ais kacang literally translated means “Iced beans”, but it contains more than that. Ais Kacang is a mixture of shaved ice with red and brown syrup over red beans, jelly, sweet corn, “attap chi” and evaporated milk. Ice cream is an additional ingredient available upon request. Super stuff from RM1:50 per bowl.

For the best ais kacang in town (in no particular order): Hawker stall at Swatow Lane and Lorong Selamat in the afternoons.

Cendol

Cendol is a favourite desert among locals. It is easily identified: green pandan flavoured noodles in white coconut milk with brown sugar. Sweet heavenly stuff – super cheap and ultra good. Costs between RM0.80 to RM1.50 per bowl.

For the best cendol in town (in no particular order): Hawer stall at a lane off Penang Road; eating outlet at Midlands One-Stop Centre and Lorong Selamat coffee shop

Argh that cendol looks damn tasty :(

Tom Yam Sri Mutiara

This is my favourite place to eat . There are lot of Tomyam stall around but this Sri Mutiara is differtent . The service is quite fast .You should try their "nasik goreng USA" , the best "nasik goreng USA" i ever ate . The prices are normal for Tomyam stall. If you come to Sri Kembangan, Serdang this is the one place you should go and eat. its near pasar borong , exit before pasar borong near Seven E , Pinggiran Putra area. I will put photos later

Deli Terra Jaya Jusco

I don't believe this.....We've found another great place to eat in MidValley Megamall. Last time, we reviewed Little Penang Cafe... this time its from Jaya Jusco's very own cafe called Deli Terra. Don't laugh... I too was laughing until I tried their chinese Penang Assam Laksa at RM4.50 a bowl . I just kept on quietly eating until the whole bowl was finished. Let me tell you more...

This place has it all if you're looking for laksa. The cafe was intelligently designed so that it sits next to their flower garden (which are on display for sale). Instead of just having the flowers to sit there looking pretty, they decided to bundle in a cafecomplete with garden tables and chairs to that patrons get this lovely garden cafe experience when eating there. The laksa is good and on top of that, this place is air conditioned! Tremendously good ambience for eating.. which is why this place is packed and during peak time, the queue can be about 10-15 minutes long. They serve only a handful of dishes namely bubur cha cha, laksa, nasi pulut, mushroom koay teow and nasi lemak. The two that I liked is their Assam Laksa and Nasi Pulut.

Let me tell youlah.... the assam laksa is damn good. Its cooked Chinese Penang style complete with pineapples, mint leaves, otak udang, sardines, onions and all. This is as near original as you could ever get in KL. The laksa gravy is a bit sweet, spicy and sourish.. a trademark of Penang Chinese style laksa and they give you generous portions of sardine flesh with it. To balance the flavours, they throw in generous portions of mint leaves, pineapples and otak udang. A powerful spicy concoction. Congrats fellas... this is how laksa is supposed to taste like....

The Nasi Pulut is also quite good (RM4.90). Its yellow pulut rice accompanied with chicken rendang, nuts, cucumber, chopped chillies and spring onions. Thats not all. The whole dish comes in a banana leaf setting. The secret to this dish is their chicken rendang. Its quite well made and when eated with the pulut and some of their sweet sambal .. gorgeous!

The other thing thats worth a mention is the setting of Deli Terra. As I said earlier, its done in a flower garden, it has nice wooden garden table and chairs, nice chinese crockery.. you just have to come here to see what I mean. This place is well liked from the looks of it. Malay, Chinese, Indian.. all got .. united over a bowl of laksa. True malaysian spiritlah. Anyway, if you're in MidValley and looking for a good assam laksa, head to the North Section of the mall where Jaya Jusco is, climb up several flights of stairs to Deli Terra on Jaya Jusco's top floor and look for Deli Terra.

Don't worry... if your eyes can't see it.... you nose will find it .. believe me. Enjoy your assam laksa as laksa this good don't normally come from an air conditioned restaurant. Make sure you ask them to put some 'otak udang' on the laksa..... Bob! thanks for the tip!

This is Deli Terra slap bang in the middle of Jaya Jusco's air conditioned flower garden. Very nice...

Popiah Basah Restoran FC

Popiah Basah Restoran FC
Ground Floor , Wisma PKNS
Shah Alam
Selangor

I like popiah basah. This is a malay delicacy that's hard to find except in the Ramadham months. However, we at RitzSt.Com found one in Shah Alam that serves one of the meanest popiah basah in town and its available throughout the year too. First of all.. to those of you who are not sure what popiah basah is, here is a brief description. Its some kind of a rolled up kuih. The skin is made with tepung gandum (flour). Its stuffing is made of cucumber, carrot, ground nuts and sometimes pieces of chicken. Most popiah basah has some kind of chili sauce is either wiped over the rolled up kuih or spread thinly over the flour based skin before being rolled up with all the stuffings.

The popiah stall on review is located inside Restoran FC and run by Abd. Rahim. He's been in the business for 8 years and started to run this popiah business full time only last year. But his popiah, got kick one! Let me tell you more The popiah skin is moist and soft (very hard to make), the stuffing is delicious and it has the right balance of sweetness in it. The sweetness comes from the chili base and ground nuts which I particularly like. But if you are butter tongued, better ask them to hold back the chili. Wouldn't want you to melt your tongue then, would you? Anyway, a well prepared dish by Abd. Rahim. They are open for noon to about 5pm Mon to Sats. Ask people around Shah Alam on how to get to the PKNS Complex if you get lost and hope that you like your popiah. Just remember what I said about the chilli, okay...

Songkhla Hawker

Songkhla Hawker
In front of Post Office, furthest from the flag pole, Jalan Dewan Sultan Ismail, Off Jln TAR
Kuala Lumpur
Wilayah Persekutuan

Review

There's this one hawker stall just off Jln Tunku Abdul Rahman that serves really delicious thai/malay dessert so today, we're trying out some topak sotong, nok nek, putih naga, bubur cha cha and sago. Don' t worry about the wierd names. I'll explain them to you one by one... Its hard to get good malay desserts in KL especially bubur manis so I was pleasantly surprised when a friend of mine recommended this place in front of the Post Office at Jalan Dewan Sultan Sulaiman. They serve many many many varieties of desserts from bubur manis, rojak, keladi, ubi kayu to something called putih naga. Lets just ease in into these definitions and at the same time have some fun trying these desserts out....

Made from ubi kayu and sliced banana, this putih naga dessert is one of my favourites at this stall. A whole banana is wrapped around a mixture made of ubi kayu and steamed. It is then rolled over grated coconuts and sliced into smaller pieces. I didn't know that the combination of ubi kayu and sliced banana can taste this good. Its a bit sweet but the neutral taste of ubi kayu neutralises the sweet taste giving a good balance to the sweet taste of putih naga. Similar to this is their 'nok nek' which is actually buah melaka. It has a gula melaka filling, very sweet and nice.

This place has a lot of bubur manis selections. One of the bubur manis that we tried was their sago dish. This is one addictive dessert fellas. With its gravy made of santan or coconut milk, this dessert is accompanied by generous portions of sliced nangka and sago shaped into square sizes. This is a sweet dessert but I tremendously enjoyed the fresh sweet taste of the fruits in the sago dessert. Another bubur manis that we tried was their bubur cha cha. Still with the same santan gravy base, their accompaniment comprised of coloured transparent jelly beans made of flour. They even have Topak Sotong which is bubur manis cooked with big squids. Didn't dare try that one- lah fellas. Thats one mean looking bubur manis. In summary, this is a great place to try out wierd looking malay / thai desserts, fellas. Most of the desserts are sweet so you must have a sweet tooth to enjoy this. They even have sweet pickled keladi, ubi kayu, labu, keledek and banana. Very hard to find in KL. The bubur manis were well prepared and I particularly like the ubi kayu and banana Putih Naga. So, that ends our dessert quest at this small hawker stall off Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. enjoy your Putih Naga and if you are adventurous.. try out their topak sotong....

Delicious rows of Putih Naga....Made of Ubi Kayu, Banana and Grated Coconuts

Rows after rows of the bubur manis selection. Sotong is in the back middle pot...

Their very own Bubur Cha Cha with the coloured jelly like beans......

Foods : Char koay teow penang

I may not have been experimenting a lot on the local delicacies of late but my personal sureshots are: Char Koay Teow - Sany's. Wet style. The one in Bayan Baru right across Sunshine Square mall. Opens in the evening for dinner till 3 am. You can opt for the alternative (wet style, only spicier and the cook apparently uses a helluva lot more oil than usual) at Char Koay Teow Bawah Pokok. This one doesn't have a signboard. It's located just beside the main traffic light junction intersecting the Free Trade Zone in Bayan Lepas. Opens in the evening for dinner till 3 am (closes on Mondays). Yeoh's Char Koay Teow in Teluk Bayan (just behind the Shell petrol station after the Bayan Baru roundabout) is possibly the "best and affordable" CKT around these parts of the Northern region that I could think of if you're particularly thinking of getting dry chinese style CKT. Gets very busy during the weekends (duh! :)) and they close on Wednesdays. There's a lotta other good dishes that I'd like to recommend. Stay tuned!

char koay teow bawah pokok and behind alkaria BM are the best , no doubt about it :) , go try sure leleh one :)

Foods : Nasi Lemak Tanglin

This is something I grew up eating...i have it tipped in Malaysia page as well. If you are a nasi lemak eater - then you will appreciate the quality of rice here - each grain can be seen, tasted yummy. And the sambal is just right consitency. I have been eating there since I was a kid...but this place was around before I was born!!! Now they have moved from the make shift palce under a tree to a brick buidling and I think the crowd just gets bigger....worst time is on Saturdays - it is just as bad on weekdays morning. Be prepared to wait it out - and it is really worth it. I t cost average about RM3-5 and it is wonderful!!! Nearby is a stall selling noddles - Chinese noddles but cooked my Malays - so it is quite different but also tasty!!!
